Let the magical, nostalgic atmosphere of old Japan sweep you away on this free tour of Kanazawa's geisha districts, a walk among traditional lanterns, hidden alleyways, and teahouses.
Tour Details
We'll meet at the famous Omicho Market, and once everyone's arrived, we'll kick off this very special nighttime free tour of Kanazawa. Shall we?
First, we'll walk to Kazuemachi Chaya, one of Kanazawa's most atmospheric geisha districts, set along the banks of the Asano River. As we stroll through its narrow streets lined with elegant buildings, we'll reveal the history of geisha culture and the important role these neighborhoods played during the Edo period.
Next, we'll head to Kokoro no Michi, an area dotted with temples. Here, you'll learn about the city's defensive past under the Kaga clan and how these complex fortified structures served not only as religious centers but also as strategic military strongholds during the feudal era.
The final stretch of the route takes us to the iconic Higashi Chaya, Kanazawa's most famous teahouse district. As you take in its lit-up wooden facades, you'll feel like you've traveled back in time while hearing about how geishas sing, dance, and entertain guests with traditional games.
Finally, we'll wrap up this 2.5-hour tour back at the starting point.
